Ontario Government Building New Child Care Spaces in Barrie

As part of Ontario's ongoing efforts to build and improve local schools, the province has given the Conseil scolaire Viamonde $2.8 million to add a childcare centre and an EarlyON Child and Family Centre to École élémentaire La Source. Construction of this new addition is now underway and the new childcare rooms are expected to open in September 2022.

This investment will add a new, quality learning environment for the children of Barrie and includes the addition of an EarlyON Child and Family Centre to the school. This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to build more childcare spaces for Ontario’s families.

“The funding for this childcare centre addition to École élémentaire La Source is great news for our community,” said Andrea Khanjin, MPP for Barrie-Innisfil. “This investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for the children of Barrie.”

Ontario’s investment in new and updated schools will create the foundation for a modern learning environment for thousands of students across the province.

“By funding the construction of additional child care spaces in Barrie, our government is delivering more affordable and accessible childcare for working parents,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce. “We are committed to making childcare more affordable, which is why our government enhanced the Ontario Child Care Tax Credit, saving every child up to $1500. I appreciate the advocacy of MPP Khanjin in support of parents across Simcoe as we work to expand quality childcare in their communities.”

Highlights of the childcare centre addition include:

  • 39 new licensed childcare spaces.

  • 2 new childcare rooms.

  • 1 new EarlyON Child and Family Centre room.

The President of the Viamonde Council, Sylvie A. Landry, is delighted with the expansion of the childcare center at La Source Elementary School in Barrie: “Thanks to the support of the Ontario government, we will continue to offer more services to families in our territory who want their young people to wake up, grow up and play in a totally French-speaking secular environment. These services are essential to our community and we are very grateful to the Minister of Education, the Honorable Stephen Lecce, and Andrea Khanjin, Member of Parliament for Barrie-Innisfil, for helping us continue our mission as a leader in education.”

École élémentaire La Source is located at 70 Madelaine Drive in Barrie.
